The
Solution
NJC’s Knowledge Management Solution was rolled out in
2 phases. It includes the Knowledge Base for teachers, known
as the Teacher’s Centre, which is a structured database
that houses all academic resources like test papers, lecture
notes and examiner’s reports. Its powerful search engine
enables both teachers and students to locate what they need
rapidly.
The Teacher
Centre
All the teachers in NJC have access to almost any kind of
information they need through the Teacher’s Centre.
It is made up of 8 knowledge bases, which houses all types
of content and information in a structured manner. They include
the Administration Knowledge Base, the Projects Knowledge
Base, the CCA Knowledge Base and many others. The information
is systematically categorized which makes retrieval effortless.
Furthermore, through the Power Search feature, teachers can
use keywords to locate the accurate data.
Integrating these
knowledge bases are collaborative tools, which allow teachers
to work together more effectively. Whether it is to update
faculty data, review and approve syllables or to set up a
quick survey, the system provides easy-to-use instruments
for teachers to achieve these tasks quickly without any special
technical expertise. In fact, teachers can conduct online
forums and discussions about the latest project through a
few easy clicks.
Governing these
processes is the System Administration module that issues
access to the appropriate parties and grant different levels
of management of the information to different staff. Moreover,
this module also includes audit trails that can monitor and
track all actions taken within the system as a security enhancement.
The Student
Centre
The Student Centre is an online space for NJC students to
access all kinds of information related to their development.
This database includes content that is structured by subjects,
faculty, CCAs to general information such as career guidance
and university admission processes.
In order to keep
this hub fresh and brimming with the newest information all
the time, the system contains a Content Publishing module
to help teachers publish lecture notes, class reviews and
interesting articles onto the designated online space. Simple
templates are used and every staff at NJC can contribute to
the curriculum effectively.
